As flowers bloom love seems to be the tone of the season on our big screens. Ster- Kinekor’s local film releases; 10 days in Sun City and My Wife & I are romantic comedies that will make you heart skip a beat or leave your stomach in pain from laughter, but one thing guaranteed, an indulgence of Romcom entertainment!
“Ster-Kinekor is once again showing its commitment to the local film industry and lending its support to the release of local films. We are excited to be releasing 10 days in Sun City and My Wife & I. We look forward to movie lovers filling up the cinemas with both titles being released this spring,” says Motheo Matsau, Chief of Marketing and Sales of Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
“We are committed to screening and marketing local productions that tell our South African stories in their many different guises, stories that South Africans can relate to. Genres such as romcoms and romantic humour perform particularly well at the box office and, when spiced up with a good local flavour or twist, they have even greater appeal with our local audiences,” Matsau continues.
The Ster-Kinekor started the local film glee this spring with an overflowing pot of delightful African talent. Featuring some of South Africa’s brightest young talent, 10 days in Sun City released on the 25 August, and starring Amanda Du Pont. It is a colourful dish filled with some of the best Nollywood stars and garnished with ‘lekker’, best-loved local comedian and star Celeste Ntuli.
The film is about Bianca, a campus beauty queen, who Akpos has sacrificed his livelihood to make successful. After winning a national beauty pageant, Bianca, ever loyal to Akpos, becomes an international celebrity, rolling with society’s ‘high and mighty’. Otunba who is also invested in Bianca, follows Akpos and Bianca to Sun City. Will Akpos give up his love despite all his sweat and tears? Will Otunba, ‘the old fox’, lose this time despite his wit and charm, which he has used to conquer time and again in the world of business?

This season Ster-Kinekor offers a delightful selection of films which includes My Wife & I that releases on 15 September. This film is filled with humour and unpredictable anecdotes that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This production by Inkblot: My Wife & I, is the story of an unhappy couple who seek help from a pastor in hope of a miracle, which to their surprise, comes in a form of swapping bodies.

Toyosi and Ebere have a failing marriage, but for the sake of their twin teenagers, they decide to give their marriage one last chance. After a visit to a famous Pastor, they somehow wake up in each other’s bodies. Unable to switch back, Toyosi and Ebere are forced to masquerade as each other until a solution can be found. They couldn’t save their marriage as themselves, can they save it as each other?
